The 6th edition of “Su e Zo per i ponti di Venezia” took place on Sunday 45 April, a solidarity walk through the streets of the lagoon city, in which approximately 8500 people participated: a river of people, numerous families, school groups, groups, sports associations and volunteers, united in a day dedicated to aggregation, friendship and solidarity.
The numerous bridges and streets that characterize the route gave participants the opportunity to explore lesser-known corners of the lagoon city, often hidden or less known. In this context, the organizers greatly appreciated the possibility of also passing inside the Arsenale, one of the architectural wonders of the Serenissima, a symbol of Venice's maritime power in past centuries, today home to theInstitute of Maritime Military Studies which has always been strongly committed to the protection and enhancement of the historical and cultural heritage entrusted to it, in compliance with its own institutional needs and the operational requirements of a military naval base.
The passage through the ancient Arsenale of Venice, with access through the entrance to the Corderie exhibition area of the Venice Biennale, wound its way to the south-west corner of the Darsena Grande, continuing north to the Piazzale della Campanella and the Enrico Dandolo submarine, to skirt the Canale delle Galeazze and the Darsena Vecchia, before exiting from the Padiglione delle Navi.
Rear Admiral Domenico Guglielmi, commander of theInstitute of Maritime Military Studies and of the Presidio of Venice, at the time of the award ceremony, commented on the synergy with the civic Administration and the various realities of the Venetian citizen community as follows: "As in previous editions, also for this event the Navy is alongside the lagoon city to support the organization of this important city event. For this reason, the areas of the ancient Arsenal have been made available, in order to help make this event even richer, more interesting and participatory. Participation in this initiative must also be seen in the context of the Armed Forces' constant commitment to making the site increasingly accessible to citizens: in this regard, just to give a few examples, we can indicate other future initiatives that we will carry out in the coming days, after the 'Open Doors' of last March 28-30: the 'Giornata del Mare', April 10, the 'Venice International Boat Show', May 29 – June 2, and 'Navy Day', June 10."
