On Wednesday 25th September, the boys from the Penal Area of Naples immersed themselves in the wonderful depths of the Gulf of Naples in the waters facing the Santa Lucia marina in the shadow of Castel dell'Ovo for a morning dedicated to love for the sea, for the environment and for social redemption.
The project called, Bust Bester Mare Nostrum, involved the Juvenile Justice Center of Campania, the Archeoclub d'Italia association and the Navy with the Navy headquarters of Naples and the local SDAI Nucleus for underwater supervision and has allowed the boys of the Penal Area of Naples to acquire skills in diving practices to have opportunities for future insertion into the world of work.
The kids, for the first time, supported a scientific activity that will give them the opportunity to understand the importance of the geological resource, even of the excellent products of Made in Italy.
The project, in fact, involved the positioning, for refinement, in the depths of Castel dell'Ovo of 450 bottles of limoncello underwater for an experiment in collaboration with the Federico II University of Naples where the liqueur will remain for about a year at a depth of 15 meters maturing "cradled" by the sea currents at a constant temperature completely sheltered from the lunar phases and in the absence of light and oxygen creating a project that was able to unite the social with scientific research.
Deep appreciation from Captain Fabio Danese, commander of QGM Naples: "The project is centered on the boy. Through knowledge of the sea, a continuous and profitable life lesson is combined, accustoming to respect for work, understood as an expression of energy, growth and self-affirmation".
Present at the day was the logistics commander of the Navy, Admiral Salvatore Vitiello, who greeted all those present before the start of the experimental operations.
