The ship's stop in the port of Alexandria in Egypt ended on 21 August Louis Durand de la Penne as part of the Education Campaign for the students of the first class of the Officers' School of the Navy of Taranto.
The training staff were engaged in various activities, which constituted an important opportunity for interaction with the local culture. The experience strengthens international ties and enriches students from a professional and personal point of view.
After having carried out, together with the ship's commander, the usual protocol visits to the local authorities, the students had the opportunity to go to the Italian Military Memorial of El Alamein. During the visit, immersed in the sacredness of the place, the students were able to experience firsthand the spirit that motivated thousands of heroes to fight for their nation, aware of the risk, without ever backing down. In memory of their visit, the students donated their relief cap to the Shrine.
On the morning of August 20th a representation of students took part in the commemorative ceremony, held at the military monument "Caduti del mare" in Alexandria, Egypt, jointly with the cadets of the Officers' School of the Egyptian Navy, deployed in full uniform and accompanied by the band. In honor of the fallen at sea it was placed by Nave Durand de la Penne and of the XXVI course n. marshals, a laurel wreath.
In the early afternoon, however, they were given the opportunity to visit one of the 14 units of the Egyptian Navy naval base: the Frigate Al-Aziz, a new multi-role class ship mek 200.
From these opportunities, the students were able to consolidate the values that have always distinguished the Navy, making them aware of being heirs of great traditions and ideals. Furthermore, they were able to compare themselves with the Egyptian cadets, who are experiencing the same professional experience.
At the end of the stop, which was very valid and educational, the destroyer returned to sea, taking the opportunity to carry out some training activities with the Egyptian ENS unit El-Fateh, before heading towards Malta.
