28/02/14

The 26 November 2014, with the return of the corvettes Urania, Sfinge and Fenice in the Augusta base, ended, for the 12 vessel lieutenants, the 263 ^ Naval Command School session.

From the first day of "school" 6 intense weeks have passed, during which the official visitors have first performed mooring and unmooring maneuvers in the roadstead of Augusta, on board of ship Caprera, Panarea, Ticino and Lipari while, in the last 3 weeks, they trained on board the three corvettes, including maneuvers in formation, towing, chairlift and tilting steps. More than six hundred maneuvers carried out.

During the weekend, stopping in the beautiful cities of Palermo and Naples, the patrons followed the commanders in the protocollary activities and in relations with the public while the ships, open to the visits of the population, were visited by hundreds of people.

There was no lack of suggestive moments, such as the meeting at sea with Libeccio ship, returning after a long mission abroad. The four ships took a close formation and together celebrated the ceremony of the flaginaine in a solemn form.

This morning, at Augusta, on the Cassiopea ship flight deck, the ceremony for the delivery of certificates of suitability for the command took place; Rear Admiral Mario Culcasi (commander of the patrolling forces for surveillance and coastal defense), after the closing speech and best wishes, personally handed the "diplomas" to the new commanders.

In a few months the young officers will finally take their "first command".
