In the first ten days of September, at the Submarine School of the Submarine Flotation Command in Taranto, the 1st NATO Course for Coordinator Rescue Force - CRF.

The course, which responds to an important need of the International Relief Community grouped in SubMarine Escape and Rescue (SMER) Working Group, led by NATO, represents a moment of advanced training for those specialists who could be called to operate in a situation of absolute emergency, during which specific, thorough preparation and maximum timeliness of action will be required, both in terms of personnel, means and technologies.

The teaching was conducted jointly by international lecturers of the ISMERLO (International SubMarine Escape and Rescue Liaison Office), Italian officers, both submariners and divers, with illustrative interventions by representatives of private companies operating in the underwater sector.

This formative moment involved various issues, from the purely technical ones, such as the ability to rescue at national and international level, to those of media management, up to the most recent developments in the field of psychological support to survivors.

Over the course of the two weeks, the participants touched upon some operational realities of the Armed Force, devolved to face similar events, such as the Aircraft Station of Grottaglie, the Military Hospital Center of Taranto and the Cospas-SarSat Station of Bari (for the location distress signals), concluding their training course with a challenging operational planning exercise for a rescue event on the seabed of the Gulf of Taranto.
