Today, June 19, 2020, the minesweeper Numana of the Navy has identified the wreck of the fishing boat New Isis thanks to the synergistic use of sophisticated means of the Navy, with the support in the searches of the Coast Guard.

The wreckage was found in an area about 30 miles north of Palermo, almost 1400 meters deep, thanks to the use of the ship's sensors and a wire-guided vehicle of the Underwater and Incursors Command (COMSUBIN).

The search began on May 30 with the use of the Navy frigate Carabiniere who had identified an area of possible presence, where the minesweeper Numana he then carried out further research.

The depths of the seabed, the presence of strong sea currents and the uncertainty of the location of the sinking and the less than optimal weather conditions made research particularly difficult and complex.

Confirmation of the identity of the wreck was obtained thanks to some images of the name written on the side.

The images and the remaining material found will now be made available to the investigating authority.
