With the entry of the first patient, the Advanced Medical Post (PMA) set up by the Navy in Barletta, in the area in front of the Dimiccoli Civil Hospital, became fully operational.

The Navy has completed the preparation of the PMA making it fully operational in less than two weeks, thanks to the constant commitment of the military and with the contribution of materials and personnel from the civil hospital.

The initiative stems from contacts between the Ministry of Defense, the Navy, the Ministry of Regional Affairs, the Puglia Region, the Civil Protection and the ASL Barletta-Andria-Trani (BAT).

With this set-up, capable of offering up to 40 hospitalization places for low-intensity Covid 19 patients, we want to help ease the pressure on the civil hospital and local health facilities, which has grown strongly in recent days following the evolution of the pandemic COVID-19.

The activation of the PMA of Barletta follows the experience made by the Navy during the first wave of the pandemic, in the month of last April, when the Armed Force deployed the PMA at the Hospital of Jesi.

The PMA is managed by the medical staff of the Navy: doctors, nurses and staff for logistical support. In particular, the health personnel, for a week already have been carrying out a period of coaching, familiarization and support to the health personnel of the Dimiccoli and have carried out an intensive training session at the Vittorio Emanuele II Hospital in Bisceglie, Covid hospital since the first wave of the Pandemic.

The head of the structure is the vessel captain Massimo Pitarra of the MM Logistic Command, while the health manager is the vessel captain (SAN) Giuseppe Mollo.

The methods of admission, management and care of patients are agreed between the heads of the ASL and the MM

The Navy is also present in Barletta with a Drive Through Defense (DTD), part of the "Igea" Operation, strongly desired by the Minister of Defense, Hon. Lorenzo Guerini and directed by the Operational Command of the Joint Force Summit.
