The destroyer Luigi Durand de la Penne he left the port of Taranto to carry out the Education Campaign in favor of 2nd class attendants of the Naval Academy.
On board the students of the "Esperia course" made up of 111 official students including 24 women and 10 students from military schools of foreign countries, who in the next period - always in full compliance with the health protocols in force - will know firsthand the peculiar activities carried out by a naval unit in an operational context.
"You were the first course to have carried out the art of command module twice with the San Marco marine brigade and to have taken part last year in an education campaign aboard the Vespucci ship, one of a kind and non-stop in I know your worth; now take every opportunity to learn from the extraordinary professionalism of the crew of the destroyer De La Penne. It will be a training experience that will see you engaged in Operation Mare Safe and in the Eastern Mediterranean and which, I am sure, will represent an important step in your growth process to become official ", these are the words addressed to the young students by the commander in chief of the naval team, team admiral Enrico Credendino, shortly before moving to the bridge to watch the unmooring of the ship from the Mar Grande naval station.
Under the command of the vessel captain Massimo Bonu, the destroyer De La Penne since last June it has been included in the operation Safe Sea, the air-naval device that guarantees maritime presence, surveillance and security activities in the central Mediterranean and in the Strait of Sicily.
The students, from the first days of boarding, touch firsthand the importance of all the components on board for the success of the mission, experiencing the value of training campaigns in the process of training future officers:
"In these first days of boarding I have already had the opportunity to see how important the contribution of the individual actually is, in all the activities carried out on board and I am very proud to be able to live this experience alongside expert personnel" affirms the 2nd class student Federico Colò of the body of the General Staff.
Ship De La Penne the Education Campaign will end on 19 September 2021 with the arrival in Livorno.
