On August 27th on board the ship Italy, near La Spezia, the sixteenth group of young sailors has embarked as part of the 2024 Solidarity campaign.
The project is called "sorry for the inconvenience" and was proposed by the Child Neuropsychiatry department of the ASL 5 of La Spezia. The new crew is made up of 15 girls aged between 14 and 18 with Eating Disorder (DCA) and self-harm behaviors.
The project aims to help them process, in a dynamic and inclusive context, their experiences, their fears and their difficulties, with the aim of sharing them by acquiring awareness and seeking alternative management strategies in everyday life.
Before boarding, the girls who were beneficiaries of the project did not know each other. During the days of navigation, numerous nautical activities were carried out, such as opening the sails, the knot workshop, climbing ashore and stargazing. These, combined with the special climate of the ship, helped the girls to come together to form a group attentive to the needs of the individual. In fact, on numerous occasions they supported, listened to and compared themselves, helping each other.
The approach to life on board of the embarked military personnel was an example of rules, behaviors, teamwork, personal commitment and passion for their work, which stimulated the young crew to approach with curiosity to seek models of growth and new perspectives for their future.
The "2024 Solidarity Campaign" will continue on September 03rd with the 17th project called "Route to well-being for the frail elderly" by the University of Bergamo, which will take the brigantine to sail in the waters between La Spezia and Savona.
