The journey of Nave “G. Garibaldi ”, which for years has held the role of flagship of our Navy.

With the presence on board of the commander of the third naval division, Rear Admiral Antonio Galiuto, the aircraft carrier cruiser has returned to plow the waters of the blue Mediterranean Sea.

The ship, in fact, underwent a long period of maintenance, which kept it stationary for about a year and a half in the Arsenal of the Ionian city; the competence and industriousness of the workers have returned it to the Navy even more majestic, efficient and suitable for guaranteeing and improving safety on board.

Built in the Italcantieri factories and launched on 4 June 1983, the flagship ship has been a pioneer of countless journeys, landing in various ports around the world. Thanks to its versatility of use, over the years it has become the protagonist of all the most significant international exercises and missions that have seen the Navy engaged, especially in crisis areas. These include, and certainly not exhaustively, the missions carried out as aircraft carriers from 94 'onwards in Somalia, Albania and Kosovo, to become part of the "Enduring Freedom" operation in the Indian Ocean in 2001. , with 288 missions and with tasks of control and air support; in 2006 it intervened with rescue and aid operations for the civilian population of Lebanon. In 2011, it took part in the “Unified Protector” operation in the context of the civil war in Libya, playing the role of aircraft carrier as well as command headquarters ship. Subsequently and to date it has distinguished itself for maritime surveillance operations, sea protection and safety, interceptions and humanitarian aid.

This new route began on November 13, preceded by an intense period of isolation of all the crew in compliance with the protocols required due to the health emergency. All personnel are now engaged in naval training under the direction of highly qualified instructors of the Navy Training Center (MARICENTADD), in order to make the crew ready to operate in the main forms of combat: aerial, underwater and asymmetrical. Specifically, the unit, in the past week, carried out simulated damage control events following fires or leaks on board, reactions to attacks by external threats, rescue exercises for injured by the health team and flight operations with the helicopter component embarked (EH101). A hard and exciting training activity that has seen and will see the entire crew involved at 360 degrees.

In the coming days, the aircraft carrier cruiser will also train with an amphibious naval group of the Royal Navy, confirming its prestigious role as an instrument of Naval Diplomacy aimed at promoting cooperation and dialogue between states.

The "Garibaldi" still represents the pride of the Italian fleet and this new activity represents, together with all the other activities of the Navy, the courage of the challenge and the resistance to adversities that are in the DNA of a sailor.
