Ship Fasan in training with a Navy destroyer of the Republic of Korea

Last 25 July, the Italian frigate FREMM class (European Multi-Media Frigates) Virginio Fasan, flag unit of the air forces of the operation Safe Sea currently under the tactical command of Rear Admiral Andrea Cottini, he conducted a combined training activity in the waters of the Central Mediterranean with the Navy destroyer of the Republic of Korea ROKS Munmu the Great.

The two ships conducted several exercises aimed at sharing and refining merchant traffic control capabilities as part of Maritime Security operations.

In particular, basic communication exercises with flashes of light and an exercise of kinematic maneuvers in naval training were conducted with the aim of training the navigation teams of the two units. A medical evacuation exercise by helicopter, MEDEVAC, was also carried out, which simulated the procedures necessary to provide health care to a possible injured person and for the eventual evacuation to a hospital on the ground.

These type of exercises carried out when two military units belonging to different cooperating forces meet at sea, is called "passex" in the naval jargon, ie passing exercises.

The training activity was an important moment of sharing and exchange of operational procedures and represented an opportunity to increase and maintain a high degree of interoperability between the naval forces of the two countries.

After the event, Nave Fasan, under the command of the frigate captain Sebastiano Rossitto, continues with its activities of presence, surveillance and maritime security to protect national interests in the Central Mediterranean and the Strait of Sicily.
