Yesterday afternoon ship Doria, engaged in the European anti-piracy operation Atalanta, was called to help a French sailing vessel while patrolling the waters of the Gulf of Aden.

The mayday launched from the boat in difficulty, was received by the Maritime Patrol Air Tedesco Jester, belonging to the Task Force 465 - Atalanta, in patrol activity in the gulf, which proceeded to relaunch it to the commander of the task force.

Nave Doria, under the command of the boat captain Gianfranco Annunziata, being closer to the position in which the sailboat was located, was designated for intervention. Immediately the helicopter of the Italian ship rose in flight to gather information on the actual dangerousness of the situation.

Once it was ascertained that the crew of the boat, a couple of French nationality, was in good health and that the boat had no buoyancy problems, a team of technical personnel on board intervened to verify the nature of the engine problems and try to repair it.

The effectiveness of the intervention of the Italian destroyer staff, which lasted a few hours, allowed the French boat to resume navigation, however, not before having received some recommendations, such as following coastal routes and as far as possible from the greater areas. risk of piracy.

After the intervention of the ship Doria resumed his patrolling activity.
