Since last August 8th, Nave Chioggia was engaged in the operation Safe backdrops in the waters of the central Mediterranean, ensuring surface and underwater surveillance in the vicinity of the Critical Underwater Infrastructures, a fundamental hub for the country's economy.
The minesweeper carried out maritime patrol and surveillance under the tactical command of the device commander. Safe Mediterranean, ensuring the protection of national interests through continuous monitoring of underwater gas and cable pipelines and contributing to the safety of SLOCs (Sea Lines Of Communication - maritime communication lines).
To achieve these objectives, the Unit made use of on-board sensors including organic sonar and the wire-guided vehicles with which it is equipped, specialized in the search and identification of objects on the seabed.
During the deployment, moreover, Nave Chioggia took part in the fourteenth edition of the Trans-Regional Seapower Symposium 2024 whose theme was “The underwater dimension as a new frontier for humanity", which fits well with the reality in which minesweepers operate.
Finally, from 10 to 14 October, the unit participated in the "Sette Mari" event in the city of Chioggia, returning after eight years to the city that gave it its name, opening its doors to the local population who flocked on board to visit the ship and discover its potential.
At the end of the operations, the Unit returned to its headquarters, where the suggestive Gulf of Poets, overlooking the city of La Spezia, awaited it.
Ship Chioggia will continue to train under the auspices of the command of the Mine Countermeasure Forces (MARICODRAG) with the aim of further increasing its capabilities and operational standards, necessary to ensure the fulfillment of future missions.
