Vessel Cassiopeia provides medical assistance to injured sailor on fishing vessel

The offshore patrol vessel Cassiopeia, engaged in the operation Safe Mediterranean, on the afternoon of Monday 7 April received a distress call via radio from the Motopesca Asaro Fishing, with the request to intervene to provide medical assistance to a crew member, for a hand injury.

Thanks to the proximity of the fishing vessel to the patrol area of ​​Nave Cassiopeia, it was possible to start rescue operations immediately. The Navy unit was in fact engaged in the rescue activity Fishing Supervision active to ensure the free exercise of fishing activities by national fishing vessels, in international waters, in full compliance with current national laws.

Ship Cassiopeia, despite the unfavorable weather conditions and rough seas, managed to transfer the injured boatswain from the fishing vessel with its dinghy to take him on board the military unit, where the medical team promptly provided the necessary care to stabilize the patient. Subsequently, the unit headed towards the waters in front of the port of Pozzallo, where it disembarked the sailor with the support of a patrol boat of the Port Authority to ensure his transport to the hospital in the city of Modica.

Ship Cassiopeia She then continued on her way to Augusta at the end of her time at sea in Operation Fishing Supervision, replaced by Ship Sirio.
