Ship Carlo Bergamini, flagship of EUROMARFOR, is engaged in the exercise Open Sea 25, the Navy's largest training event which includes the deployment of naval units, submarines, air assets and amphibious forces, which train in highly realistic scenarios.

The European Maritime Force, composed of Italy, France, Portugal and Spain, under Italian command for the two-year period 2023-2025, through an intense program of activities at sea, guarantees training and interoperability between navies and crews in order to ensure operational readiness for maintaining maritime security in the enlarged Mediterranean, from the Gulf of Guinea to the Indian Ocean.

Following the activation ceremony of the EUROMARFOR Task Group, which took place on 31 March on board the Unit moored at the Taranto Naval Station, the Ship Bergamini has been inserted into Task Force 621, ensuring its operation in the Tyrrhenian Sea for approximately 3 weeks. During this period, personnel and vehicles will undergo an intense training cycle, which allows them to refine their individual skills and develop maximum synergy between the forces.

The EUROMARFOR Task Group, under the command of Captain Marco Stocco, will also support the NATO operation Noble Shield, demonstrating the flexibility of the Force's employment, capable of intervening rapidly and at short notice.

La Open Sea 25 sees the participation of two different EUROMARFOR Groups: the Task Group of escort units, composed in addition to the Bergamini also by the Portuguese ship Francisco De Almeida (rejoined at the end of another training activity in the Western Mediterranean) and that of the minesweeper units, simultaneously involved in the ITA MINEX 25 exercise, the latter being a highly specialized activity for the search, identification and deactivation of mines and other war remnants.
