Tuesday 16 August, the frigate Carlo Bergamini of the Navy has given up its moorings from Taranto to join the device Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2).

NATO's second permanent naval group is an integrated multinational naval group, one of the four permanent devices that make up the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) and is part of the NATO Response Force (NRF) operating under the command of the Allied Maritime Component (MARCOM Northwood).

The SNMG2 device constitutes a continuous and visible presence of the solidity and cohesion of the Atlantic Alliance, aimed at guaranteeing maritime safety and the vital interests of the Member States.

The NATO Task Group is also employed in the execution of complex multinational exercises with Allied countries and Mediterranean partners, aimed at improving the capabilities of the respective navies and their interoperability.

La Standing Nato Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2), therefore constitutes a multinational naval force permanently available to carry out NATO missions by intervening promptly in the event of political, military and humanitarian crises.

In this context, the frigate Bergamini and the other Units of the SNMG2 device operate divided into two Task Units: the first engaged in operational activities in the Aegean Sea, while the other deployed throughout the entire Mediterranean Sea.
