Navy: the green fleet takes the sea

27/01/14

In the 28-29 days of January, a Green Diesel-based biofuel will be tested on the Foscari Offshore Patrol of the Italian Navy.

The "Green Fleet" project, which lasts about a year, arises from the operational need to identify an alternative product to fossil fuel (fossil fuel NATO code F76), used on board the Naval Units.

Eco-efficient military vessels will allow the future to reduce the consumption of petroleum derivatives, contributing to the achievement of the commitments made by Italy and the European Union in the international field on the containment of emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases, in accordance with the lines guide to the National Energy Strategy.

The experimentation on board of Nave Foscari represents the final phase of a research project born from the collaboration between Marina Militare and Eni. With it the first phase of the experimentation of green marine gas oil is completed, the new generation fuel.

Wednesday 29 January pv, at 10.00, will take place on board the Foscari Offshore Patrol, moored at the Tullio Marcon Wharf in Augusta (SR), a press conference, during which the results of the experiment will be discussed.
