Mare Nostrum: a child is born on a Euro ship during rescue operations

There are 1656 migrants rescued by the ships of the navy and by the patrol boats of the port authorities this weekend in the Strait of Sicily. The Euro frigate yesterday in Reggio Calabria landed 616 migrants recovered on Saturday; among them also the child born on board immediately after the rescue of her mother and 90 other migrants from a rubber boat.

The medical personnel of the navy, having ascertained that the birth was imminent and there would not have been time for transport by helicopter to a hospital, assisted the mother during the moments of birth. Both the baby and her mother landed yesterday from the ship in good health.

On Saturday morning, in the port of Messina, Chimera ship landed 283 migrants rescued on Friday.

On board the Sirio patrol boat, there are currently 370 migrants recovered in four rescue operations from as many rubber boats south of Lampedusa.

The amphibious ship San Giusto embarked 302 migrants from Fiorillo ship of the Capitanerie di Porto rescued by an overcrowded pod yesterday.

The frigate Fasan and the patrol boat Borsini, with the support of the tug Asso 30, and the merchant ships Enrico Ievoli, Minerva Alice and Bourbon Orca, during the night rescued a dinghy in distress by embarking on 85 migrants.

Completed a few minutes ago the rescue by the merchant ship Apageon (Malta) with the aid of a Fiorillo vessel and the CP308 and CP323 patrol boats of the harbor authorities, recovering 416 migrants.

Finally this morning the CP304 patrol boats of the harbor authorities and G 114 of the finance guard intercepted and escorted to the port of Pozzallo a boat with about 160 migrants.
