The Alliance multi-purpose research unit returns to the port of La Spezia

The multipurpose ship Alliance, after more than sixty days of navigation, she returned to the Naval Base of La Spezia with the scientific team of the Hydrographic Institute of the Navy on board.

Launched last June 22, during the period of activity in the North Seas, the ship carried out over 1.150 hours of motion, of which 475 of scientific activity, and 10.193 miles traveled, of which 2.972 in the Arctic Ocean, completing the first of three research campaigns of the three-year High North 2020-2022 program.

Ship Alliance, a multi-purpose hydro-oceanographic research unit owned by NATO and managed by the command of the Navy's mine countermeasures forces, had left the Ligurian city of La Spezia after following a strict medical quarantine protocol lasting about 20 days and being declared COVID-free.

The crew of the Alliance ship, with the return to the port of normal dislocation, after a short technical stop will undertake the medical protocol again in view of the restart in the next month of September.

The scientific team of the Hydrographic Institute will return to Genoa for the subsequent processing and evaluation of the data collected during the HIGH NORTH20 activity.
