NATO renews its commitment to collective security and defence with the launch of the Steadfast Dart 25, one of the most important annual exercises of the Atlantic Alliance.

From the beginning of February, the Rapid Reaction Forces will be deployed in Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and the Aegean Sea to improve integration and interoperability between units and operational commands.

Italy will have a leading role thanks to the Navy, which will participate with the command of the second naval division/command of italian maritime forces (COMDINAV DUE/COMITMARFOR) - key structure of the NATO Force Structure -, embarked for the occasion on board the ship Etna. This contribution confirms the centrality of our country in Euro-Atlantic and Mediterranean security.

La Steadfast Dart 25 is part of the activities planned by NATO to test the ability to respond to threats and ensure maximum operational efficiency. The exercise will involve naval, land and air forces, with the use ofAllied Reaction Force (ARF), led by the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Italy (NRDC-ITA), based in Solbiate Olona (MI).

Among the main objectives is to demonstrate how quickly NATO can strengthen the defense on Europe's eastern flank.

The exercise aims to:

  1. Strengthen NATO deterrence by demonstrating unity and readiness through credible deployment of forces.
  2. Test the ability to respond rapidly, addressing complex scenarios that require timely and coordinated actions.
  3. Promote interoperability, improving the operational effectiveness of allied forces.
  4. Ensure maritime security, protect trade routes and prevent possible destabilization in the region.

Approximately 10.000 military personnel from nine allied countries will be involved, with air, naval, land and special forces units.
The main operational area will be the Aegean Sea, a strategic point for Europe's energy, commercial and geopolitical security.

During the training activities, COMITMARFOR will have a strategic role in the planning and command of the Allied maritime forces. Recognized as a maritime component of NATO, this command represents an Italian excellence in the defense sector, distinguishing itself for its ability to operate in multinational and multidomain contexts, as well as to manage complex naval operations. With the upcoming exercises, it will further strengthen its role as a pillar in regional maritime security.
