The characteristics of the San Giusto ship stimulate the interest of the Lebanese Navy

The ability to provide logistical support in national and international scenarios of Nave San Giusto were at the center of the meeting organized aboard the amphibious unit of the Navy moored in the port of Beirut.

The captain of the vessel Aniello Cuciniello did the honors who, with the coordination of the defense attache, Colonel Massimiliano Sforza, welcomed on board the captain commodore Haithan Dannaoui, commander of the Lebanese Navy and of the commander Afif Ghaith, head of the Lebanese hydrographic institute.

To the delegation of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), the peculiarities of the naval unit used to kick off the joint humanitarian operation “Emergenza Cedri” were shown, which in a few days, over 1000 nautical miles away, was able to deploy defense assets.

The meeting developed through a path aimed at illustrating the potential of San Giusto, immediately stimulating the interest of the Lebanese Navy.

In particular, the characteristic floodable basin that allows the ship to carry out amphibious activities such as the landing of men and vehicles from the sea and on the sea.

The same presence of the marine brigade Saint Mark aroused the curiosity of Commodore Dannaoui, who was particularly attentive to the operational capabilities of the Navy landing forces and their vehicles.

The visit then continued on the flight deck where, on the occasion of the humanitarian mission, the EH 101 helicopter of the Navy coming with all its crew from the 1st Luni Sarzana helicopter group was deployed. The guests were then shown the bridge and the main navigation systems of the amphibious ship.

During his speech, the commander of the Lebanese Navy expressed his gratitude to the Italian contingent for the humanitarian effort in Lebanon and, in particular to the Navy with Nave San Giusto, for having ensured logistical support to the staff employed in the field hospital set up in Beirut, following the tragic explosion that took place last August 4.
