At the headquarters of command in chief of the naval squad (CINCNAV) has begun the Submarine commanders conference 2024 (SCC24), a prestigious annual conference that is taking place for the first time in Italy. The conference, chaired by Rear Admiral Bret Grabbe, Commander of NATO Submarines (COMSUBNATO), brings together 14 delegations from member countries of the Atlantic Alliance that have a submarine component.
SCC24 represents an important opportunity for discussion and dialogue on issues related to operations in the underwater dimension and aims to strengthen synergies and interoperability between NATO forces.
The event was opened by the Commander in Chief of the Naval Fleet and Commander of the European Maritime Force, Admiral Aurelio De Carolis, who underlined how, in a multi-domain operational context, the submarine component plays a fundamental role in the strategic and operational capabilities of the Navy.
At the opening of the meeting, Rear Admiral Vito Lacerenza, Commander of the Italian Navy Submarines (MARICOSOM), highlighted the importance of sharing information and exchanging ideas within the submarine community and how these elements contribute to making cooperation between NATO navies more effective, in a dimension, the underwater one, increasingly crucial for the interests, security and prosperity of the countries of the Alliance.
Within the SSC24, thanks to the presence of theInternational submarine escape and rescue liaison office (ISMERLO), aspects relating to submarine search and rescue, with particular attention to collective emergency response capabilities in the underwater environment.
