The Navy rescues a boat with 200 migrants

The Navy ships engaged in Operation Mare Nostrum, at 14.30 today, have identified, around 80 miles south of Lampedusa, a boat with about 200 migrants on board, including women and children.

The amphibious ship San Marco intervened and, having ascertained the low buoyancy of the boat, the large number of people, all without safety equipment, declared the emergency situation at around 14.45 and is currently engaged in rescue.
