The Navy signs an agreement aimed at surveillance and control for environmental protection

Last July 31, an important agreement was signed by the Navy's Deputy Chief of Staff, Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, and the General Director of Infrastructure and Security of MASE (Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security), Dr. Marilena Barbaro. which continues the now consolidated collaboration, which began in 2014.

The Navy, with its personnel possessing technical preparation and professional experience in the specific sector of diving and hydrography and cutting-edge specialist means, provides support to the DGIS in organizing and carrying out the inspection activity of its competence in regarding safety checks of plants in the territorial sea and on the continental shelf, inspection campaigns and sampling from the extractive sector to carry out activities to verify the conditions of the conditions of pipelines and plants and, finally, the necessary hydrographic support .

The agreement defines the joint activities to be carried out in the three-year period 2023-2025 and will allow the development of synergies in the context of the appreciation of the conditions of the marine bed and what is present in it, in the execution of interventions at high altitude in the seas facing Italy for security support purposes offshore national and surveillance and control for environmental protection, and will also provide an important contribution in the fields of public utility and inter-institutional synergy for greater security of energy supply and "maritime security" understood in the broadest sense.

The participation of the Armed Forces in this type of activity falls within the framework of the support that the Navy guarantees to Italy for the protection of its interests at sea and in the sea. These include the security of trade and energy flows, in an international context characterized by growing risk factors for the collective security of the country on a geopolitical, economic-financial, environmental and energy level.
