The Navy had already intervened to narrow the research area in recent days with the frigate Carabiniere. Thanks to the onboard Panoramic Echo Sounder, high frequency sonar with the ability to discriminate medium-sized objects up to 2000 meters deep, the ship has identified some underwater contacts to be investigated further.

Nave Numana is a coastal minesweeper (Mine Hunter Coastal - MHC). The Unit has a crew of 44 military personnel and is able to carry out localization, identification, neutralization of naval mines, war residues, bombs and, thanks to its versatility for Dual Use purposes, archaeological finds and objects of interest deposited on the seabed . To carry out these operations, the Unit is equipped with a THALES 2093 high-discovery sonar and wire-guided underwater vehicles including the Multipluto, capable of acquiring images up to a depth of over 1500 meters.

The GOS Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) team is on board the ship Numana with the Perseo, one of the high-tech wire-guided vehicles supplied, which can dive up to 1.500 meters deep, both to acquire high-definition images through their underwater video cameras, and to recover objects on the bottom by means of the respective manipulator arms .
