The Education campaign for the first year students of the Officers' School from Taranto on board the ship Louis Durand de La Penne.
Since July 22, the students have sailed the seas of the Eastern and Central Mediterranean, touching important ports such as Heraklion in Greece, Istanbul in Turkey, Limassol in Cyprus, Alexandria in Egypt, Valletta in Malta, Catania and Bar in Montenegro, covering over 4300 nautical miles, for a total of approximately 660 hours of motion.
On board, the students had the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired during their training in an operational context. The exercises included kinematic maneuvers, navigation in restricted waters, fire fighting and leak prevention training, hot exercises with on-board weapons as well as activities related to the management of daily life on a naval unit.
The stops at the various ports also offered further learning opportunities through institutional visits and visits to Italian and foreign naval/air bases, further enriching the training experience of the students.
These practical experiences were essential to introduce the students to future professional challenges in the Navy, effectively refining their skills.
A significant moment of the campaign was the choice of the name of the course: "Altair", inspired by the star Altair, the brightest of the constellation Aquila and one of the vertices of the Summer Triangle.
The decision to choose such an emblematic name symbolizes the guidance, direction and clarity of purpose that characterize the course. Altair is visible in both hemispheres and represents a landmark in the summer sky, making it a symbolic choice for future NCOs.
In conclusion, the training campaign represented a crucial step in the training of the students, providing them not only with technical skills but also with a deep understanding of the operational dynamics of the Navy.
The experience lived on board the ship Durand De La Penne It will remain an indelible memory in their professional and personal journey.
Under the name "Altair", the course is preparing to face future challenges with determination and team spirit.
