Intermarine, subsidiary of the industrial group Immsi SpA (IMS.MI), announces that today it has carried out the administrative handover to the Italian Navy of the UNPAV Naval Unit (High Speed Multifunctional Naval Unit - Cabrini Class), named Tullio Tedeschi.

The ship, delivered in line with the timing of the schedule, is the second of the two UNPAVs commissioned by the Navy from Intermarine in October 2016 for a total of 40 million euros, and meets the highest quality standards. The first ship, called Angelo Cabrini, was delivered last July.

The unit is named after the third class mechanic of the Royal Navy, Tullio Tedeschi, who was awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valor for the sinking of the English heavy cruiser York, which took place on March 26, 1941 in the Bay of Suda in Crete. . Tedeschi passed away in his hometown, Isernia, on November 2, 1987.

The formal handover ceremony was not held today, in compliance with the directives prepared by the government and the governor of the Liguria Region regarding the demonstrations and gathering places.

The UNPAV

The UNPAV is a versatile and modern naval vessel capable of providing a high value to the peculiar capabilities of the Navy, in particular ensuring the support of the activities of its Special Forces (Operating Group Incursori - GOI), both in the training phase and in the course of real operations. The two units of the class ("Cabrini", head of the class, and "Tedeschi") will also contribute to the control of maritime traffic, to the fight against illicit traffic, to safety in environments with the presence of asymmetrical threats and to the evacuation of personnel from areas of crisis.

Versatility is one of the fundamental characteristics of the UNPAV unit, able to meet multiple needs, thanks to a platform with free spaces dedicated to the transport of specific equipment of the COMSUBIN-GOI, capable of developing high speed and built with materials characterized by robustness, ballistic protection, heat resistance, shielding from electromagnetic interference, reduced weight and high structural resistance.

The unit, which can accommodate a crew of 27 people between fixed and embarked Special Forces team, is made of composite material, has a length of 44,16 meters overall, a width of 8,4 meters by 1,5 meters of immersion, and a displacement of 190 tons. This platform allows the boarding of an RHIB Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat Zodiac Hurricane 733 in use at GOI, via a stern slide and an integrated launch and recovery system.

The propulsion system consisting of 3 pairs of Kamewa hydro jets and MTU 16V 2000 M94 engines, installed in two different "engine equipment" rooms, ensures the unit has a maximum speed of over 32 knots. The water jets offer great maneuverability and high reactivity such as to keep the platform stable and firm alongside other units.

The unit is characterized by a high level of automation that guarantees the containment of the number of crew members.

The dashboard is ballistically protected and allows a 360 ° view. The integrated dashboard console allows the control of the entire Combat System as well as the equipment for navigation and management of the unit and the platform control and monitoring system.

A modular area in the aft area of the covered bridge allows different types of operations such as naval assault operations, release and recovery of Incursori operators employed in Special Operations. Furthermore, in particular configurations it is possible to install a containerized decompression chamber to support underwater activities. There are some rooms of the unit completely dedicated to hosting the COMSUBIN equipment.
