On 18 March 2022, at the Fincantieri al Muggiano (SP) shipyard, the delivery ceremony to the Navy of the first Multi-Purpose Offshore Patrol (PPA) took place. Paolo Thaon of Revel, commissioned to Fincantieri as part of the Navy's fleet renewal plan.

Ship Paolo Thaon of Revel, launched on 15 June 2019 and first of 7 units of the class, will be able to carry out a wide range of missions from strictly military to others of a more inter-agency and inter-ministerial nature, thanks to the approach multipurpose by design adopted right from the design stage, which makes them particularly suitable for use in scenarios of humanitarian assistance and rescue operations for the civilian population in the event of a disaster (Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief).

In the broader framework of the renewal programs of the old generation operating lines (so-called legacy), the PPA Program allows the maintenance of the capabilities of the maritime component of Defense for the purposes of Maritime Surveillance - also in relation to the national EEZ being set up - and the growth of the inventive, planning and thinking heritage to which prosperity and well-being is closely related of the country, with positive repercussions on the national shipbuilding industry and on local industries.

Ship Paolo Thaon of Revel, whose preparation and training of the crew was ensured by New Naval Construction Equipment Center (MARINALLES), is now placed under the command of the first naval division based in La Spezia (COMDINAV ONE).
