The tactical commander of theOperation Safe Mediterranean (OMS), Admiral Andrea Petroni, within the framework of the broad cooperation program developed daily in the eastern Mediterranean basin between the flagship, Ship Rizzo, and units of allied countries, visited aboard the U.S. destroyer Arleigh Burke.
The event was an important moment of comparison and exchange: Ship Rizzo, in fact, since mid-November has been the flagship of WHO and is helping to ensure maritime safety and freedom of navigation in the waters of the Eastern Mediterranean.
The meeting at sea between the two naval units was an excellent opportunity to develop a joint training program, allowing the various on-board teams to increase their professional skills in a multinational context. The activity also constituted a precious opportunity to share moments of life on board among the crews and thus develop curiosity and knowledge of a professional reality different from their own: some members of the crew of the Italian frigate and the US destroyer were in fact able to experience a completely unique moment thanks to the visit on board the respective units in navigation trim.
These activities highlight the importance of cooperation between allies to ensure security and stability in the Mediterranean, a sea that has always assumed strategic importance and where today it becomes even more important to promote freedom of navigation and protect peace and the interests of the Nation.
