Yesterday afternoon, in Piazza Bainsizza in Rome, the first monument to the Italian sailors was inaugurated, the result of the collaboration between theNational Sailors Association of Italy (ANMI) and Rome Capital.

The monument, dedicated to the military and civilians who disappeared at sea, wants to remember the shape of a vessel.

It is composed, in its essential elements, of a fountain, made up of massive blocks of Roman travertine, with a semicircular water collection basin.

The composition is completed by the circular medallion and the large flooring, also made of radial travertine slabs.

The wind rose, a historical anchor and four bollards further characterize the maritime identity, while four jets of sailing water give movement and dynamism to the work.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief of Defense Staff, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, the Mayor of Rome, prof. Roberto Gualtieri, the president of ANMI, team admiral (r) Pierluigi Rosati, and the deputy chief of staff of the Navy, team admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto.
