The "Comando Subacquei ed Incursori Teseo Tesei" of the Navy represents an excellence unanimously recognized at international level: the operational tasks of the Special Forces and Divers also prelude to particular and high profile needs in the medical and nursing sector, with the full expression of all the specialist skills available such as, for example, cardiology, otolaryngology, neurology, psychology and dentistry that can now find a right expression also through a fruitful collaboration with Marinferm La Spezia.
In this sense, the "state of the art" of the Comsubin Health Service is constantly updated and evolved through the acquisition of new equipment and the modernization of older ones, as in the case of a new multidisciplinary ultrasound system capable of carrying out also functions in the neurological and internal sectors, of a miniaturized apparatus for multi-parameter cardiometabolic monitoring over several days, of the approved Kaltembach step. Furthermore, there is the possibility of carrying out the ergospirometric test, started a few years ago by the CV (SAN) Saverio Panico, who recently returned as a valuable collaborator, while in the trauma sector the diagnostic field is faced with the execution of muscle-tendon ultrasounds with a medical officer in possession of SIUMB certification, and, last but not least, the possibility of carrying out physiokinesiotherapy treatments conducted with the aid of modern and recently introduced equipment. All this was also achieved through an important logistical reconfiguration of the facilities provided, with a virtuous and rational assignment of use of the individual rooms, which allowed to give full expression to all the aforementioned specialized skills available.
Therefore, the multidisciplinarity necessary to face the health requests of the Command requires the constant commitment to the high training of health personnel, which originates from a virtuous strategic and coordination work of the Health Inspectorate, from a continuous and fruitful exchange of experiences with various universities (Padua, Pisa, Varese, Florence, Bari) and from futuristic studies in the fields of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine, which include EEG recordings (in addition to the Neurologist also present the figure of a specialist technician in neurophysiology) and ECG in the underwater environment , with the development of internal design and construction instrumentation.
The Comsubin Health Service was, and still is, at the forefront also in emergencies related to the Covid 19 pandemic: nurses have long been deployed in structures of the National Health Service to support and support the various needs in the area while, at the same time, continuous monitoring of the staff in force was initiated by carrying out swabs in order to reduce the risk of spreading infections; in this regard, the vaccine facility set up internally began to operate promptly and carried out an effective activity, substantially bringing the administration of the first doses to completion, pending national regulatory updates.
Last but not least, it is necessary to remember the Silver Medal for Marine Valor recently awarded to TV (SAN) Gianluca Degani for the professional and timely life-saving intervention given to Incursore personnel, seriously injured in the operating theater. Dr. Degani has always been dedicated to the development of courses aimed at training personnel as "Military Rescuers" as well as "Prolonged Field Care" techniques, through virtuous study and in-depth courses as on the occasion of the Neptune 2021 Workshop, organized at Comsubin during the month of March, which saw the participation of important personalities from the academic and scientific world as well as the presence of the admiral inspector (SAN) Riccardo Guarducci.
