NATO Commander Submarines visits the Submarine Flotilla Command

From 13 to 15 January, the c.amm. Andrew Burcher, Commander Submarines NATO (COMSUBNATO), visited the Submarine Flotilla Command of Taranto

Welcomed by the adm. Andrea Petroni (commander of the Navy submarines), visited the structures of the Submarine School, witnessing numerous training activities, including a collective escape exercise of personnel from a damaged submarine (Rush Escape) and from sentry box (Single Escape) , an activity in the dive simulator for class submarines Todaro (Submarine Control Simulator), a demonstration of the use of the MK11 suit, a contrasting activity and, finally, an exercise conducted in the Tactical Simulator (Submarine Combat Team Trainer) in favor of the staff of the SMG Romei.

During the visit, some projects under development jointly with the universities of Pisa and Bari were also illustrated, concerning important software that uses artificial intelligence in the field of acoustic signal analysis and multi-static Sonar.

COMSUBNATO therefore had the opportunity to appreciate the SMER (Submarine Escape and Rescue) capabilities of the Navy and the training opportunities provided by COMFLOTSOM in the delicate field of search and rescue of a possible damaged submarine, such as the new course on the coordination of rescue forces. , which will also be offered to the international community for the first time this year, with the participation of several foreign Marine officers.

RADM Burcher also paid a visit to the submarines Todaro and Gazzana, to get to know the reality of the means available to the Navy and the Alliance, means which, as said by COMSUBNATO, increasingly constitute an important operational and strategic structure for NATO.

The last stop of the visit is the Aragonese Castle, a symbol of the city of Taranto par excellence.
