Last February 3, in Augusta, the commander in chief of the naval squadron (CINCNAV), squadron admiral Aurelio De Carolis met the visitors of the 297th Session of the Naval Command School (SSCN).

The only institution, the prerogative only of our Navy, the Naval Command School is based at the fourth naval division - patrol forces command for coastal surveillance and defense (COMDINAV4 - COMFORPAT) and, since 1926, has the task of preparing officers in the rank of vessel lieutenant to assume their first naval command .

The visit of the commander in chief of the naval squadron was very significant for the 13 visitors. During the outing at sea turn on Navi Favignana e Salina, in fact, the team of evaluators and future captains were able to show CINCNAV the training level achieved at the end of the first phase of Maneuver Training (Tir.Ma.) which characterizes all the sessions.

At the end of the outing at sea, Admiral De Carolis met with evaluators and visitors to comment on the activities carried out on board and, in general, to discuss the School Command. During the meeting the admiral expressed feelings of satisfaction for what has been done so far and for the results achieved and, addressing the vessel lieutenants directly, he underlined the concept that being a commander does not only mean knowing how to maneuver a naval unit and knowing the various aspects of seamanship, but that it is essential to be a leader, to know how to treat one's crew – which is the most important resource – and to build one's own leadership style.

The visit of CINCNAV has in fact established the end of the first phase of the 297th SSCN which continues with the second phase or the Traineeship of Maneuver and Tactical Employment (Tir.MIT) in the open sea, which will involve evaluators and visitors for two weeks on board the patrol vessels Sirio e Orione with tanker support Ticino.
