The destroyer Luigi Durand de la Penne successfully completed the "TIRNAV" Naval Internship, a period of intensive training carried out under the guidance and supervision of the personnel of the Naval Training Center of the Navy (Maricentadd), which is based in Taranto, and which is the center of excellence for the formation and training of the crews of the Navy. The contextuality of the national emergency for COVID-19 did not stop Nave's crew Durand de la Penne who, together with the instructors of Maricentadd, faced the last period with determination and determination.

The Naval Internship is a moment of great training value that periodically, all the crews of the units and aircraft of the Navy must face, so that the level of operational readiness and full usability of the aeronaval instrument is certified, according to the most modern and high standards. operational. The training does not only concern purely "war" scenarios, characterized by the contrast to threats of the so-called "symmetrical" type (ships, planes, "enemy" submarines in a hypothetical war scenario) or "asymmetrical" (the contrast to threats typical of guerrilla warfare and attacks conducted with unconventional methods), but also those increasingly frequent scenarios of support for civil protection, the fight against illegal activities at sea and the tout court protection of the country's interests at sea. Furthermore, a complex series of exercises also certifies the ability of the crews to deal with internal damaging events, such as fires, leaks, medical and health emergencies.

In addition to ensuring the planning and carrying out of Naval Internships for crews (in 2019 alone, 10 Tirnavs were conducted to major units and 6 pre-mission training calls), Maricentadd organizes about 400 training courses per year (from Qualification courses Initial Specialized to those Higher Specialists and Technicians, to courses related to safety in the workplace, to those of first aid or to online distance training through the use of platforms e-learning) in favor of staff of all roles and categories, both nationally and abroad, activating over 500 sessions and certifying around 9000 people a year.

Among the courses held there are also those for damage control, carried out by the instructors of the Center's Ship System Service, both on land and on board the units during the training modules at sea.

With the certification of readiness recognized by Maricentadd, the crew of Nave Luigi Durand de la Penne is ready to sail the sea and carry out any mission among the wide range of those which our naval units are called to intervene. Among these, the first will be the delicate task of flag ship of the operation Safe Sea.
