The XIV amphibious specialization course took part in a particularly intense training day, which involved significant places in our history.

The officers participating in the XIV amphibious specialization course, at the Caorle Schools Battalion, accompanied by the battalion commander, the director and the course tutors, took part in a "Staff Ride" at the archaeological site of Canne della Battaglia (BAT). During this visit, the officers studied the dynamics of the famous battle of 216 BC, fought between the Roman and Carthaginian armies. Particular attention was paid to the "Lessons Learned" relating to what is considered the greatest defeat of one of the most powerful armies in the world, the fruit of Hannibal's ingenuity, who managed to make the most of a fundamental resource for success: maneuver.

The information gathered and the analysis of the enemy's moves allowed the Carthaginian general to make the most of his infantry and cavalry troops in the initial stages of the battle, to defeat the Roman army. His ability to maneuver his forces on the field allowed him to gain dominance, weakening the Roman defensive system, using the available resources efficiently.

The training activity also represented an opportunity for the participants of the Caorle Schools Battalion to reflect on the similarities between the strategies adopted during the Battle of Cannae and those employed today by infantry troops, having the opportunity to discuss how the site of the Battle of Cannae could be exploited from a modern perspective.
