At 08.26 this morning, during the docking operations of Nave Bergamini, inside the new naval base of Chiapparo (Taranto), the first pilot marshal Gioacchino Verde had his right leg cut off at the knee due to the breaking of a mooring line.
After being rescued and stabilized by the medical staff on board, the non-commissioned officer was transferred - in a conscious state - to the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Taranto.
A second surgery followed one second in the afternoon.
Investigations are underway to verify the causes and dynamics of the accident.
