In the first days of March, the pupil marshals of the 1st class of the Normal roles, at the end of the first exam session, he had the opportunity to visit the bases of two of the specialized components of the Armed Force: Comflotsom Taranto and Maristaer Grottaglie.

The aim was to begin to acquire the awareness of the organization of the Navy and the knowledge of the means of both naval aviation and in the underwater field, closely meeting women and men who have been operating on the front line for years. Looking towards one's future is one of the objectives for the student.

In the meeting with the men and women of the Submarine Flotation Command, which began with a visit to the Submarine School and ended with a visit to a moored submarine, the students “immersed themselves” in an unknown and technologically advanced reality, made up of simulators and multimedia classrooms where submariners are trained and trained on a daily basis.

They learned basic notions on the use of the underwater vehicle, on the autonomy and maneuvers that allow the immersion and emergence of the boat, on the type of submarines currently in line, Sauro class and Todaro class, and on what will be the future with the NFS (Near Future Submarine) project.

During the tour of the Submarine School, there was no lack of a visit to the Relics room where testimonies, registers, photos, uniforms and some parts of submarines that have made the history of the Royal Navy are jealously guarded, an example for all some remains of the Royal Submarine Scirè, dating back to 10 August 1942.

There were many questions asked by the students who, on several occasions, have openly expressed their curiosity and the desire to learn, in the perspective that some of them, one day not too far away, may be able to become part of the submariners' family. .

Going up from the abyss, the pupils' gaze turned towards the sky, thanks to the visit to the Aircraft station of Grottaglie. After watching an introductory video illustrating the history of Naval Aviation, the logistics of the operational base in Grottaglie, the main operations carried out at national and international level and the sectors of staff use, the visit continued at the hangars. of the base.Bound

In addition to group, Maristaer boasts the presence of the fourth helicopter group. In this regard, the students have seen closely the helicopters of the NH90 line of multi-role aircraft used for anti-submarine and anti-ship combat, as well as in missions of Search and Rescue and operations in support of the marine brigade Saint Mark and special forces.

Subsequently, there were two moments that characterized the day: the first, more historic, with a visit to the museum of the aircraft component, where it was possible to retrace the main stages of what was the evolution of naval aviation and of its means.

Subsequently, there were two moments that characterized the day: the first, more historic, with the visit of the Historical Room of the air forces, where it was possible to retrace the main stages of what was the evolution of naval aviation and its means.

The second, more dynamic, with a visit to the inside of flight simulators where pilots of fixed-wing aircraft are trained and trained.

“Having had the opportunity to visit these two operational realities of the Navy have increased in us students the awareness of wanting to continue our training path with greater determination. I believe that it is important for us to know in advance the different operational realities where one day we could be employed, in order to better orient ourselves in future choices ", these are the words of the 1st class student Latronico Lorena.

It is from this double experience that it emerges how much the ingenuity of man, in history, has been able to dominate the sea depths and conquer the skies.
