On 20 December in the council chamber of the Municipality of Augusta, with a simple but heartfelt ceremony, Mr. Salvatore Camisa's 100th birthday was celebrated. Born in 1922, Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, submarine NCO originally from Gagliano del Capo (LE) and Augustan by adoption.

Mr. Camisa had enlisted in 1939 and had followed the appropriate course at the Submarine School in Pula. After a few boardings, even on surface units, he was finally assigned to board the Tritone submarine.

The ceremony was attended by the maritime commander Sicily, divisional admiral Andrea Cottini, the mayor of Augusta, Dr. Giuseppe Di Mare and a representation of submariners in service at the Augusta Base.

During the ceremony, Mr. Camisa was given a letter of good wishes and thanks addressed by the Commander of the Submarines of the Navy, Rear Admiral Vito Lacerenza in which, among other things, Camisa's strong attachment to the Armed Forces is highlighted. Even recently, despite his advanced age, Commendatore Camisa has always made his presence felt, especially in Banchina Tullio Marcon both during military ceremonies, in his capacity as president of the local section of theNational Non-Commissioned Officers Association (UNSI), and as a former sailor, not failing to visit naval units at each change of command, keeping alive the memory of his fellow soldiers who disappeared during the Second World War.
