Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini, in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Navy, team admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, yesterday delivered to Varignano - headquarters of the Comsubin - Command Underwater and Incursors of the Navy - 15 diving patents to the students of the Ordinary course 2019, all young people between 22 and 25 years old. Among them the 1st class municipality Chiara Giamundo, the first woman ever to obtain the military patent from Palombaro, from the birth of the Marine Corps of the Navy 170 years ago.

“Patented on the 'Akheilos' course, you have passed 11 demanding months, today you have joined this exceptional 'group'; commit yourself to the maximum of your abilities, take all the stimuli of your extraordinary profession and I am sure that you will be able to honor the traditions and value of those who preceded you "Defense Minister said.

“I am sure that the municipality of Chiara Giamundo, the first Palombaro woman in the Navy, is feeling a particular emotion. Belonging to a group of 'special' people is certainly a privilege to be proud of, a privilege that brings with it an equally exclusive responsibility, from which you cannot escape. Be humble and silent, 'be proud of the result achieved', as your parents are proud of you. If you have achieved this extraordinary goal, it is also thanks to the wealth of values that they have been able to convey to you. " Guerini continued.

Before the ceremony, the defense minister wanted to greet the two Navy soldiers involved in an attack in Iraq last November: "By embracing you, we ideally embrace all the soldiers currently engaged in international missions".

During the ceremony, Dr. Failla Maria Cristina - president of the women's council of La Spezia - presented the prize "Woman special edition" to the 1st class municipality, Chiara Giamundo class.

Godfather of the ceremony was Mr. Stefano Cubeddu, patented diver back in 1954.
