It took place on Friday 21 March, at the submersible flotilla command of Taranto, in the presence of Division Admiral Vito Lacerenza, commander of the submarines (MARICOSOM), the ceremony of change of command between Captain Manuel Moreno Minuto and Captain Luigi Zefferino. Local civil and military authorities were present, testifying to the strong bond that unites the submariners to the Apulian territory.
Commander Minuto leaves the post after more than 2 years during which the personnel of the submarine flotilla ensured the preparation and technical-logistical support to the submarines of the Navy and their crews, and important infrastructural adaptation works were carried out on the base, including the start of the reconstruction of the "Farinati" barracks.
In expressing his thanks to his staff and the submarine crews for their constant commitment, professionalism and readiness, he urged the young submariners to always commit themselves, with passion and dedication, to their important profession.
"Commander Minuto led the Flotilla in a particularly complex period, characterized by a rapidly evolving international context. The growing importance of the underwater dimension as a new theater of international competition has required constant commitment to ensure the surveillance and protection of critical national infrastructures, such as gas pipelines and submarine communication backbones. We welcome Captain Luigi Zefferino, who has a consolidated experience in the submarine component and has gained fundamental preparation in the formation and training of crews. His knowledge of training and operational dynamics will be a precious added value in leading the Flotilla" Admiral Lacerenza underlined in his speech.
