On Thursday 15 December 2022, at the Navy headquarters in Naples, the rotation ceremony at the top of the Navy's logistics high command took place. Team Admiral Salvatore Vitiello took over from Chief Inspector Admiral Giuseppe Abbamonte.

Present at the ceremony was the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Admiral Enrico Credendino, who underlined how "the logistic command, despite being relatively young in its current structure, has inherited a prestigious baggage of experience becoming one of the three pillars on which the armed force rests", also recalled that "the many active synergies with institutions and other local realities demonstrate how the Navy is not simply alongside the city, but is an integral part of its social fabric".

Admiral Vitiello, now at the top of the logistic command, comes from the city of Taranto where, for five years, he was at the helm of the southern maritime command: “I thank the Chief of Staff of the Navy for granting me the honor of wearing the third star and for assigning me this important position as Navy logistics commander. I will undertake to sink the plow in the furrow already traced by Admiral Abbamonte and I will be available to all the city institutions to support even those activities that are external to the specific tasks of the logistic command".

In his heartfelt farewell speech, after having spent words of praise for the personnel involved in the logistics function, Admiral Abbamonte drew up a significant balance of his 18 months of command: “It was a particularly intense period, absolutely exciting. A beautiful experience, both from a human and professional point of view, that I was lucky enough to be able to experience in my hometown. I am and will be infinitely grateful to the Navy for giving me such an opportunity. In concrete terms, great attention has been paid to daily activity, the fundamental one to ensure the functioning of the Naval Units in all their components. Particular attention was paid to relations with citizens: the commitment in the social, cultural and sporting fields, the relations with all the local institutions, clubs and universities, have brought important results which have been the subject of positive media attention".

Among the numerous military and civil authorities present at the ceremony, Admiral Stuart B. Munsch at the command of Nato JFC Naples, the prefect of Naples Claudio Palomba, the attorney general Luigi Riello, the president of the Court of Naples Elisabetta Garzo.
