National Operational - Port and Coastal Survey.

On 13 February at 12.30, at the Subinitaly central stage, (also inside the 3 pavilion), a press conference will be held to present the project PON-PaCS. The Navy joined the - National Operational Program (Pon) European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) "Security for Development" - Convergence Objective 2007-2013 - which aims to improve the conditions of security, justice and legality, to citizens and businesses, in those regions of southern Italy where criminal phenomena severely limit economic development. The interventions are financed 50% with resources from the ERDF and the remaining 50% with national funds assigned to the Ministry of the Interior.

Among the various operational objectives of the program is the Port and Coastal Survey (PaCS) project, which aims to ensure the free and safe use of communication routes. In this context, the security of port and coastal areas is of primary importance, as the Italian economy is strongly dependent on maritime traffic.

Unexploded remnants of war exist today which constitute a danger to navigation and fishing and recreational activities. The PaCS project intends to carry out the mapping of the nine seabed areas. The implementation phase of the project will be managed by the Navy which, with personnel and specialized means, will lead to the identification and identification of contacts and the subsequent inclusion in the data basic, of all the information acquired during the surveys.

The result will contribute to the protection of the marine environment and will help the fight against illegal waste disposal activities, in particular those of high danger that are increasingly subject to release in illegal landfills at sea.
