The world ofUnderwater, technological development, the experiences gathered and the operational techniques adopted during the missions carried out by Italian submarines. These are the main themes at the centre of theEighth Operational Tactical Seminar organized from January 28th to 30th at the Submarine School "CF Rio Corazzi" of the Taranto submarine flotilla command. Dedicated to the commanders and submarine officers of the Navy, the seminar represented a gymnasium of ideas, an important opportunity to enrich theoretical knowledge and share the best technical-operational practices, in an increasingly challenging dimension such as the underwater world.

The seminar was opened by Division Admiral Vito Lacerenza, Commander of the Submarines, who offered a vision of the future prospects of the Submersible component, on the new National Center of Underwater Dimension, as an incubator for the development of technologies for the security ofunderwater, and on Italy's need to regulate underwater activities, in an environment characterized by increasing humanization and the expansion of critical infrastructures on the seabed.

The protection of national interests emerged forcefully during Admiral Lacerenza's speech, who underlined how in the medium term our country will be able to avail itself of the capabilities expressed by a balanced underwater fleet made up of the four new U212 submarines. Near Future Submarine, currently under construction in La Spezia, and the four U212As already in service, which will be progressively modernized. A far-sighted and concrete investment that will allow the Italian Navy to face the new decade maintaining a technological advantage and operational excellence in the underwater dimension.

The contribution of qualified speakers from the submarine command, the Navy General Staff, the Naval Armaments Directorate and the Navy Hydrographic Institute was also vast and detailed, each of whom, on the basis of their own experience and professionalism, provided a valuable point of view to better understand the opportunities and future challenges that await the sailors of the Deep.
