After weeks of intense activity at sea, Nave Alghero returned to the Naval Arsenal of La Spezia and its crew received the greeting of Rear Admiral Traetta, commander of the Mine Countermeasure Forces before the aggregation to the Group Two of NATO.

The unit, under the command of Lieutenant Gianluca Rollo, has recently successfully concluded its participation in “Mare Aperto - ITAMINEX 2025", one of the most complex and challenging exercises of the Navy, which took place in the waters of southern Sardinia.

In this context, the crew of Nave Alghero, together with those of other minesweeper units, such as Nave Viareggio, Ship Rimini and Ship Numana, completed an intense advanced training program, completing several operations, including the recovery of numerous simulated naval mines and the neutralization of war remnants dating back to the Second World War, with promptness, precision and high operational capacity.

The exercise allowed to test and consolidate the professionalism of the crew, as well as the efficiency of the on-board systems, in a complex and realistic multinational context. The activities carried out highlighted the high level of coordination between the different components of the Navy, confirming the full ability of the ship to operate in high-intensity operational environments and in synergy with national and allied assets.

During the visit, Rear Admiral Traetta expressed his deep appreciation to the crew for their professionalism and commitment, reiterating the relevance and strategic value of mine countermeasures activities for collective security, as well as the importance of the continuous technical-operational preparation of the naval fleet's specialized units.

The return of the Alghero ship represents a brief transition phase in view of the next departure for participation in the operation Noble Shield, an international mission that will see the collaboration of naval units from various Allied Navies, under the aegis of NATO.

The operation is part of the Alliance's initiatives to maintain maritime security and freedom of navigation in key areas of strategic interest.
With its operating cycle, Nave Alghero confirms the key role of the Navy's minesweepers in the defense of maritime spaces and in the protection of naval lines of communication, fundamental elements for national and collective security.
