150 years ago, on March 19, 1870, Domenico Chiodo, architect of the construction of the Military Maritime Arsenal of La Spezia, died.

In 1857 the transfer of the Royal Navy from Genoa to the Gulf of La Spezia was approved and the construction of the Arsenal, strenuously supported on a political level by Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour, was entrusted to a brilliant officer of the Naval Engineers of the Royal Navy, Domenico Chiodo.

Under his direction, the largest arsenal of the time was inaugurated in 1869 in the presence of the sovereigns. The Naval Technical Museum remembers the extraordinary figure of Chiodo and dedicates a section to him to celebrate his incredible work.
