The joint and inter-agency exercise VARDIREX 2020 (Various Disaster Relief Management Exercise), now in its third edition, ended yesterday

The chief of staff of the General Army Corps Salvatore Farina, the head of the civil protection department Angelo Borrelli and the national president of ANA (National Alpine Association) Sebastiano Favero participated in the final stages.

VARDIREX 2020 took place, in compliance with the regulations aimed at limiting the spread of the coronavirus infection, in Abruzzo and in particular in the municipalities of Avezzano, Sulmona and Scanno.

The aim of the exercise is to test the response in the field by the armed forces, the civil protection department and local authorities in the event of public disasters.

At the logistics center of Italian Red Cross of Avezzano (AQ), the ANA has set up a base camp equipped with an Alpine health structure for the management and coordination of rescue activities and restoration of normality following disasters, in particular, in Marsica and in some persistent areas the areas of the Abruzzo and Majella National Parks.

During the three days of exercise, complex emergency situations were simulated due to seismic tremors, particularly adverse weather conditions, floods, landslides and landslides that required the immediate intervention of rescuers both by land and by air thanks to the simultaneous commitment of rescuers. of the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the volunteers of theNational Alpine Association (Health and Volunteers of the 4th group).

As pointed out by the commander of the Alpine troops, general of the army corps Claudio Berto who together with President Favero signed a collaboration agreement between theNational Alpine Association and the Alpine troops (agreement aimed at defining in detail what has already been put in place so far) "The Armed Forces, in this circumstance with the Alpine troops and the operational structures of the Air Force and the Navy, are fully involved in programs and experiments that aim to achieve a greater capacity for intervention in synergy with all other organizations that deal with forecasts and relief ", what essentially represents one of the main purposes of the “Vardirex 2020”.
