Does the trade union create (would) force even among soldiers?

The 1st AMUS - Aeronautics national congress, held on 5 and 6 July at the Hilton hotel in Fiano Romano, was a significant event organized by the Association of United Military Unions (AMUS) Aeronautics. During the congress, various topics relating to the aeronautical sector were covered, including technological developments, current challenges in a constantly evolving geopolitical context and the future prospects of the sector.

The congress saw the participation of authoritative experts in the field, representatives of the armed forces and academics who presented their research and innovative projects, from the deputy foreign minister, the Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, to the sen. Gasparri and Iannone. Representatives of civil society also participated, from the head of the LEGA Third Sector department of the Province of Rome, Marco Mambor, to the presidents of the commissions of Rome Campidoglio and related municipalities. One of the highlights was the discussion on new technologies and upgrades needed to address modern challenges, such as innovation in defense systems and human resource management in the increasingly complex military context.

The relevant theme, however, was the improvement of working conditions and rights of military personnel, with particular attention to legal and social security protection. AMUS highlighted the importance of guaranteeing the defense of the rights and interests of soldiers and their families, promoting concrete initiatives that lead to making the note L.46/2022 - establishing military unions - truly adequate to the fundamental needs of men and women in uniform.

Among the many, present physically or online during the "Round Table" on day 6, moderated by Mario Troccoli (national secretary of AMUS and responsible for communication), the general secretary of AMUS - Aeronautics, Guido Bottacchiari (reconfirmed at unanimity in his role in the congressional field), Prof. Elisabetta Trenta (former Minister of Defense), the advisor to the Minister of Defense, former undersecretary Domenico Rossi, the advisor to the Minister for Public Administration Eugenio Gallozzi, the general secretary of the UILPA Sandro Colombi, the member of the defense commission in the Chamber of Deputies. Andrea De Maria, the former undersecretary of defense and member of the defense commission in the Senate, sen. Stefania Pucciarelli, USIC general secretary Antonio Tarallo and SIM vice president Marina Francesco Cacace. The transversal presence of trade union representatives from other armed forces (members of the well-known "military trade union network", made up of the main trade unions in the sector) was a positive element: as underlined by councilor Rossi, "being able to speak with a few - who express concepts for everyone - is one of the sine qua non conditions for achieving positive and shared objectives".

Beyond rules and regulations, would a "confederation of military unions" (let's call them by their name!) be useful? We will wait for the evolution of the current situation. In the meantime we have been able to appreciate how the skills of dialogue and discussion promoted are necessary elements in a difficult and complex historical moment like the current one.
