The Armed Forces in Norway for the most important exercise conducted in the Arctic since the 80s

The executive phase of the exercise begins today, Monday 14 March cold response 22.

Organized by Norway, it is the most important exercise conducted in the Arctic since the 80s, a test bed for the interoperability of the assets of the Atlantic Alliance and partner countries even in extreme environments, typical of the Norwegian winter.

The exercises of the series cold-response they are conducted regularly every two years in Norway and planned on time. This year's edition was announced more than eight months ago.

The Italian Armed Forces are present with the aircraft carrier cruiser Giuseppe Garibaldi. The naval unit, which set sail from the port of Narvik (Norway) last March 12, will play a central role in the exercise as it plays the role of flag ship of the commander of the multinational amphibious task force (Commander Amphibious Task Force - CATF), Rear Admiral Valentino Rinaldi, and hosts on board the US Commander Landing Force (CLF) commander, a role held by US Marine Corps Brigadier General Anthony M. Henderson, commander of the 2nd marine expeditionary brigade. Also present on board is a national joint force component in the staff, with personnel from the Italian Army and the Air Force.

During the exercise Ship Garibaldi it will work in close synergy with the assets of various foreign armed forces, making use of the specific training carried out in recent months by the women and men of the Navy.

Take part in the cold-response also a portion of Alpine troops from the 3rd regiment of Pinerolo, who on the ground will simulate the opposing force.

In total to the cold response 2022 Approximately 30 military personnel from the Armed Forces of 25 NATO and partner nations will take part, including Norway, which will lead the exercise from its joint operational command, the norwegian joint headquarters by Bodo.
