Minister Trenta meets the secretary general of Nato Stoltenberg

Burden sharing, stability of the southern flank of the Alliance and, in particular, of the Mediterranean basin, engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan, next NATO summit scheduled for July.

These are the main issues at the center of the conversation that took place this morning, at Palazzo Baracchini, between the Minister of Defense, Elisabetta Trenta, and the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg.

The interview, which was also attended by the Chief of Defense, General Claudio Graziano, took place in view of the next NATO Summit at the level of Heads of State and Government, with the participation of the Defense and Foreign Ministers, scheduled in Brussels on 11 and 12 July.

"NATO's commitment must pay attention to the South flank from where important challenges for the Alliance come, starting with terrorism”Said Minister Trenta during an interview with Secretary General Stolteberg.

In confirming the commitment to the Alliance, Minister Trenta reiterated the importance of the capabilities and operational contributions guaranteed by our country, with a view to defining a more balanced and fair appreciation of the extent of the overall costs borne by Italy.

Other themes on the table, the mission Resolute Support in Afghanistan and NATO's commitment to Iraq.

Thanks to the Secretary General of NATO for the significant and excellent work done by the Italian military in international missions.

Today's meeting takes place a few days after the "NATO ministerial" which ended last Friday in Brussels.
