The Chief of Defense Staff, General Claudio Graziano, in Lithuania for an official visit, held important meetings with the country's political and military leaders.

In particular, General Graziano had the opportunity to discuss the hottest issues of common interest related to international security with the Minister of Defense, Raimundas Karoblis, with the Chief of Defense General Jonas Vytautas Žukas and with the Deputy Minister of Affairs Foreign Darius Skusevičius.

Many points on the agenda: from the security situation in the Baltic region and in the Mediterranean, to the Italian contribution to NATO's "Enhanced Forward Presence" and to the Air Policing, from the need for ever greater synergy between NATO and the European Union to the contribution that two countries offer for collective defense and for the fight against terrorism.

All the interlocutors have underlined the excellent relationships that exist between the Italian and Lithuanian armed forces who work side by side in multinational operations to guarantee international security.

"The Italian and Lithuanian military - it has been remembered - cooperate for over 17 years in various forms and for various purposes". Words of appreciation were addressed to General Graziano for the great commitment of the Italian armed forces who"at 360 degrees they operate as an Alliance's active partner to counter threats from both the eastern flank and those from the southern flank".
